Roads

Version 1: *Here I try to use capital first letters for certain words to create a dystopian vibe to better express my original poem’s core narrative: opposition to control of thought and expressions. I am not sure if I succeeded.

 

We shall not proceed by Sorrow.
We shall not proceed by Numbness.
We shall not proceed by Chaos —
Or by Desolation's aftermath.
Tonight — my head a thicket of directions — I stand.
Tonight — all Wilderness are my Roads.

 

We are required to move — but not Progress.
We are required to think — but not Silence.
We are required to love — but not Fanatic.
Tonight — I smile at Frost's binary dilemma.
Frost smiles at my engineered Nowhere.

Version 2: *Here I adopt a more casual tone, especially in the second half of the poem, to see if it changes the effects of expression

 

We shall not walk in sorrow.
We shall not walk in numbness.
We shall not walk in chaos
or after desolation.
Tonight, my head planted with signposts, I halt.
Tonight, all wilderness is my road.

 

Gotta move but not necessarily forward.
Gotta think but not necessarily deep.
Gotta love but not necessarily crazy.

Tonight I smirk at Frost and his two precious paths.
Frost smirks back at my self-made dead end.
